What is Teradek TV?

Teradek TV is a “camera-to-cloud” live feed and recordings review platform that provides real-time visibility into all stages of production, allowing creatives, producers, executives, and other remote collaborators to see the frame at all times. The ability to see the frame throughout each stage of production has been directly tied to better productivity and more meaningful, creative decision making for each department on set and in post. Teradek TV simplifies two key solutions for production – cloud management and remote, real-time viewing.

Teradek TV is the Management and Viewing portion of Camera-to-Cloud, but Teradek also provides the remainder of the hardware and software necessary to complete a production's cloud workflow.

How does Teradek TV work?

Teradek TV simplifies the process of adding cameras and viewers to the cloud. Project Admins, such as studio tech teams, video assists, DITs, or other workflow specialists, can quickly assign permissions and route live streams and recordings to everyone when and where they need it. 

The second aspect of Teradek TV is quick-access viewing for remote creatives, producers, studio execs, etc. These users can easily view encrypted live feeds and recordings on any personal device. They can also voice and text chat with other team members when they are to the same collaboration Space. 

As a Teradek TV Project Administrator (learn about all the Roles within Teradek TV here), you can quickly add cameras and encoders to Spaces using the drag-and-drop feature to specify which crew members see which feeds. 

Spaces are virtual rooms where Viewers interact with Live Feeds, Recordings, and other Viewers. Viewers cannot watch any Live Feeds or Recordings without first being assigned to one or more Spaces by a Teradek TV Project Administrator. Administrators might organize Spaces by type of Viewers, perhaps all producers or all executives. Alternatively, Administrators might assign a Space to a specific unit, perhaps only cameras and viewers participating in the London Unit. Administrators have total control and flexibility to organize spaces however they see fit. Admins can also enable live voice and text chat to encourage live, remote collaboration for Viewers in each individual Space.

Watching Live
Feeds and
Recordings as a
Viewer

For producers, executives, post facilities, VFX houses, or other remote viewers, it's never been easier to watch live camera feeds or post review sessions from afar. Teradek TV’s unique viewing app simplifies the process of watching and communicating with fellow collaborators.

Live Feeds in Teradek TV can either be a direct view into what’s happening on set or into an edit station or color bay during post production. Recordings give remote viewers the ability to playback proxies of specific clips or takes. Chat and Voice features allow Viewers to stay in contact with other team members. 

As a Viewer within Teradek TV, you will only have access to the viewing app. This can be downloaded from the app store of your choice or through a web browser. We recommend using an app, however, because the experience and feature set is much more robust. We are also able to guarantee lower latency streams. 

Once you are in the app, you will see the projects of which you have been added. If you have no projects, you have not been added to any. Check with your Teradek TV Project Administrator. 

Within each project, you will see Spaces. Spaces are virtual rooms where you interact with Live Feeds, Recordings, and other Viewers. You cannot watch any Live Feeds or Recordings without first being assigned to one or more Spaces by a Teradek TV Project Administrator. Administrators might organize Spaces by type of Viewers, perhaps all producers or all executives. Alternatively, Administrators might assign a Space to a specific unit, perhaps only cameras and viewers participating in the London Unit. Administrators have total control and flexibility to organize spaces however they see fit. 

Finally, once you are inside a Space, you can start watching live feeds and playing back recordings. You can also join the voice or text chat, if the Administrator has enabled that feature for you. 

So, let’s get you started!

How do I watch a Live Feed?

To see the live feed, use the Teradek TV Viewing App on iOS, Android, MacOS, Windows, or Apple TV.

As a Viewer, you will be invited via email by a Teradek TV Administrator or Coordinator:
1. Click the link in the email to Log In

2. If it's your first time signing in, you will be prompted to create an account (just create a password, that's it). You can also sign up here.

3. Once you log in, you will see the Projects and Spaces you have been invited to (if you don't see one you are looking for, ask your Project Administrator)

4. Select the Project or Space to access your viewable feeds

5. Choose the Multi-View options or see one view at a time by selecting the individual camera feed

6. For touch screen interfaces, tap to reveal the viewing controls

7. Tap the Multi-View icons to see multiple feeds or select the camera icon to select which camera feed is displayed in single view or as prioritized in multi-view configurations

8. You can control audio by toggling on/off the audio icon

9. You can click the three dots in the top right corner of any camera feed and click “Display Settings” for more advanced viewing options like color profile and color range that you are viewing your feed in. You can also access the transmission delay in which you are viewing your feed. 

How to Chat With Others in Your Space

If the collaborator feature has been enabled, tap the speech bubbles to enter the text chat and send messages to others in your Space. 

You can also select the “Join” button to enter the voice chat. You also have the option to mute your mic or see how many other people are on the call, to leave the voice chat, select “Leave”. 

What if I Can’t See the Live Feed?

The Camera will show Offline, No Stream, or Waiting.

“Offline”

The encoder is linked to the camera, but the encoder is not connected to the internet. 

Solution

Go to your encoder’s web UI and make sure it’s connected to a network. Learn about how to find your encoder’s web UI at this support article (find the article specific to the encoder)

“No Stream”

The encoder is linked to the camera and the encoder is connected to the internet, but there is no video.

“Waiting”

The encoder is linked to the camera, the encoder is connected to the internet, and there is video. Teradek TV is detecting the stream from the server

Solution

If you’re stuck in the Waiting for Stream/ Loading screen, go to Project Settings. Navigate to General and select Restart Streaming Server. Also, make sure the server is up-to-date by selecting Upgrade Streaming Server if available. Lastly, be sure you’re using the closest region to where you’re shooting.

How to view Recordings?

The Recordings tab, next to the Live Feeds tab, stores all the current Recordings from the cameras that are within your space– listed, by default, from most recently uploaded recording to least recent.

You can filter this section by selecting individual cameras, marked clips, and or date recorded.

Note:
Marked Clips refer to those clips you have “starred” on your current device. These marked clips will not be shown on your other devices or shared in any way with other viewers. 

If you select a Recording to view, the Recording will populate full screen for viewing. You have the option to scrub, pause, and play. 

After viewing a Recording, a Recently Viewed section will appear in a last viewed order, for easy access in case a Recording needs additional review.
