Teradek Bolt 6 offers a feature that no other wireless video system offers, the ability to desqueeze anamorphic footage right from the Bolt receiver. With the resurgence of shooting on film, anamorphic de-squeeze has become more relevant than ever.

Almost half of all Oscar-nominated movies in the past few years have been shot on film– Super16, 35mm, and 65mm. Even student films and music videos are being shot on film again. Furthermore, many of these projects are shot with anamorphic lenses.

Why is anamorphic desqueeze in Bolt 6 so powerful?

Why is anamorphic desqueeze in Bolt 6 so powerful?

When shooting with film and anamorphic lenses, there is no simple way to desqueeze the image that is coming from your video tap. You can desqueeze in each of your SmallHD monitors, or you can use Bolt 6 to desqueeze all of your looped monitors at once, saving you time and the need for technical expertise. Bolt 6’s desqueeze feature can work with digital cinema cameras as well, depending on your workflow requirements.

How to desqueeze your anamorphic lenses in Bolt 6

  1. From the Bolt 6 XT RX Menu, go to: Menu > Advanced Settings > Desqueeze
  2. Then choose from the following formats based on the squeeze of your anamorphic lenses: 1.25x, 1.33x, 1.5x, 1.65x, 1.8x, 2x

Bolt 6 only supports HD (720 or 1080) and 4K input resolutions, meaning if you have an SD (320, 480, or 540) video tap for your film camera, first you will need to upconvert to HD. There are several HD upscalers available on the market.

note note

Anamorphic Desqueeze was a highly requested feature for Bolt 6. We'd love to hear about any additional features you might need!
